Program Overview

 
Flexibility and Focus

Designed for working professionals who want to start or enhance their own companies and for science majors who want to work in business and industry, this two-year, interdisciplinary, graduate-level program offers both flexibility and focus.

Students select advanced business courses while deepening their knowledge of chemistry, biology, or one of the other science concentrations. The required capstone project allows each student to apply knowledge to an innovative idea of his or her choice. And the internship provides real-world, problem-solving experience where business intersects with science.

In addition, this program will help you to enhance your skills in:

  • leadership
  • communication
  • problem solving
WCU's entrepreneurship program is a practical hands-on program of study designed by entrepreneurs and is the first and only entrepreneurship program in North Carolina.
 
 
Use of Technology

This program is designed to expose students to the interface of science and business. The implementation of new technologies will be studied and experts from industry will be engaged in your course of study. Technology will be utilized to create meaningful connections with outside experts. Point-to-point video conferencing will be available full time for this program.

Graduates who successfully blend a strong foundation in science with a thorough grounding in business will find they fit right into careers involving:

  • technical sales and support

Graduates will be better prepared to start or grow their own companies in= various technical specialties.
 
 
Program Requirements

A total of 36 credit hours – 12 hours from each of the following areas:

• Science
• Entrepreneurship
• Professional development courses, including an internship

 
 
Admissions Criteria

  • A bachelor’s degree in science from an accredited college or university
  • A minimum grade point average of 3.0 or better
  • GRE scores of 400 or better on each of the three sections of the general exam

Other experience will also be considered toward admission.

In addition to expanding knowledge of science and business at the graduate level, this program will help individuals to enhance skills in leadership, communication, and problem solving.
